Finding Yoga

I found yoga during a very difficult time in my life. It gave me a way to focus my energy, quiet the ever-present internal monologue in my mind, and simplify my life.  I learned how to channel my energy into asanas (physical postures) as well as pranayama (breathing techniques) and  meditation. The daily study and practice of yoga has been truly transformative for me and has led me to make enormous, positive changes in my life.  I feel compelled to share the gift and practice of yoga with others.  

 

I am grateful to have found my first true teacher, Stephanie Mortellaro, in 2009. Before then I had been to a few yoga classes, but my serious study began with Stephanie who has studied with the most respected and revered yoga teachers in the world, including studying in India with the recently passed B.K.S. Iyengar, the founder of Iyengar yoga, Francois Raoult, a world-renowned Iyengar teacher and owner of Open Sky Yoga in Rochester, NY, Judith Lasater, the celebrated restorative yoga expert, and Patricia Walden, a senior Iyengar teacher. When I felt called to become an instructor, Stephanie led me to her own teacher, Francois Raoult.

 

I am now a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance under the expert tutelage ofyoga master, Francois Raoult at his yoga school and studio, Open Sky Yoga Center.  My teacher training allowed me to learn from and study with some of the world's finest instructors including Yoga History and Philosophy with Douglas Brooks, PhD, Anatomy and Kinesiology with Laura Antelmi, Ayurveda with Sonam Tagree, and Prenatal Yoga with Carla Anselm.  I continue to study at every opportunity as is the path of the yogi. My most recent study was with Judith Lasater.

I have taught yoga and mindfulness both privately as well as publicly and am currently teaching yoga privately in Eagle Valley. Additionally, because I was a teacher for fourteen years and also very active in the professional development of my peers, I am comfortable teaching all ages of students, from young children, to teens, to adults. In the last years of my time in the classroom I began teaching mindfulness techniques to my students.  I have also taught my own children meditation techniques that have served them well in stressful situations.  I remain passionate about the mind-body-spirit connection and feel called to share my experience with others. The best teachers are the ones who understand that their students are carriers of wisdom of their own, and so I am always eager to see the Wisdom Within those I am honored to teach.
