WHAT IS REIKI?
Our immune systems fuction most efficiently when our bodies are relaxed, balanced, and at peace. Unfortunately, in most of our busy, daily lives, we rarely find ourselves feeling all three of those things simultaneously for an extended length of time.
Reiki (RAY - kee) is a simple yet profound system of natural healing for the body and mind. It was developed by Dr. Mikao Usui in Japan in the late nineteenth century and was brought to the West by Hawayo Takata. Rei means "universal," and ki (or chi in Chinese) means "Life Force Energy." It involves the "laying on of hands" in order to facilitate the flow of energy through the seven chakras, or energy points, in the body. While a Reiki practitioner uses his or her hands during a healing, physical touch is not necessary as the hands can simply be placed above specific areas of the body if the client prefers.
Reiki heals the whole person by working on four levels: physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual.
What Is a Reiki Healing Like?
Reiki healings are done with the client fully clothed and either laying down, sitting, or standing, depending on how the client is most comfortable. Full treatment can take anywhere between 45 and 90 minutes depending on the client's needs. The Reiki healer moves around the client, placing his or her hands on the client's body (or above the client's body if no touching is preferred) focusing on the seven chakras. A Reiki healer may spend more time at one place than another, he or she may revisit certain chakras, or may focus on specific areas of injury or imbalance.
Who Can Benefit from Reiki?
Short answer: everyone!
Here is a more detailed answer. Reiki is not aligned with any particular religion and is for everyone regardless of religious or cultural background. It is safe for people of all ages, it is also safe for mom and baby during pregnancy, and it can even be used on animals.
You don't have to believe in anything in order to benefit from a Reiki healing. Reiki positively effects a person on many levels: physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. It heals the whole body. The energy in a Reiki session goes where it will most benefit the person being treated. Our immune system works best when the energy centers in our body are balanced; thus, Reiki works towards balancing our Life Force Energy, bringing about relaxation and lowering stress levels, and in this way promotes natural healing. Reiki can be used alongside and in conjunction with other medical treatments, be they homeopathic or medical.
