MY FAVORITE BIRTH WEBSITES AND RESOURCES

Click on the links below to explore the sites and articles I refer clients to the most

This is a fantastic site for articles that are evidence-based rather than practice-based and is researched and written by Rebecca Dekker who is the founder and PhD-prepared nurse researcher as well as a mother, wife, and writer. There is a great search feature as well as a way to sign up for the newsletters and mini-lessons on evidence-based care.

Gail Tully is a midwife and the founder of Spinning Babies. This site helps with fetal positioning during pregnancy and labor and seeks to help women align their babies for ideal labors and births. There is a plethora of useful information and education to be had here. I suggest starting to read and practice what this site suggests early in your pregnancy--there's so much to learn!

This is an evidence-based breastfeeding and parenting webpage. It is full to the brim with articles, blog posts, resources, and information on all things breastfeeding and breastfeeding related.

Penny Simkin has been supporting women in childbirth and childbirth education since 1968. She is a doula, author, childbirth educator, and birth counselor. She is also one of the founding members of DONA International, one of the world's leading doula certification agencies, of which I am a member, received my training, and am in the process of awaiting my certification approval. Her site is a wonderful spot for information, education, and resources on pregnancy and birth.

Midwife extraordinaire, Ina May Gaskin has been a trailblazer for birth in this country as well as around the world. She is the founder and director of the Farm Midwifery Center, is the author of many books on childbirth, all of which still figure prominently in the birth world today, travels the world spreading her wisdom, and serves as an inspiration to women and their families when it comes to pregnancy, labor, and birth.

Here Jennifer Kamel has compiled all of the research pertaining to vaginal birth after a Cesarean birth (VBAC) in response to her own frustrating search for it years ago. She hopes to provide "general consumer understanding and education" for those who seek it. She debunks myths, answers FAQs, and offers classes, email subscriptions, and many other resources for becoming informed on VBACs.

This blog was founded by January Harshe, a mother who wanted to empower other women to seek the births they wanted for themselves. This site has an immense amount of stories from women all over the world, from all walks of life, and covering the full spectrum of birth experiences. It is meant to be supportive of all pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum experiences. If you're looking for a place to read birth stories and journies and learn how others have gone through this age-old rite of passage, look no further! It is also loaded with additional resources.

Are you having a boy? Congratulations! This is a fantastic site that gathers medical research and information regarding the decision to either leave your baby boy's penis intact or to circumcise it. Here you will find statements and videos from doctors, parents, and other caregivers, and everything you need to know concerning infant penises, intact foreskin care guides, and circumcision. As a doula, it is not my place to judge your decisions; it is my job to provide you with information should you desire it. Circumcision remains a deeply personal decision that families make. As with all decisions surrounding pregnancy, labor, birth, and parenting, informed and educated decisions are under your control.

This website offers an excellent option in creating a VISUAL BIRTH PLAN, with great little icons, that is easy for hospital staff, providers, and support people to take in as you ready your birth environment.

There is a free birth plan template here that is valuable even if you just want to see a list of options and items to consider for your own birth. There are also many naturally made pregnancy and postpartum products for sale here.
